Joseph Parker inspires students
Last month Joseph Parker came to our school and talked about what he does. Joseph Parker is a champion heavyweight boxer.

First he wakes up at 5:00 in the morning and goes for a run for one hour. Then he comes back home to have breakfast. He has porridge. Then he goes to sleep and wakes up at 10:30 am.
Then he gets ready to train for 1 hour 30 minutes minimum or 2 hours maximum. Then he goes home and has lunch which is a healthy and substantial lunch. After lunch he has another sleep. He said he loves sleep and sleep is very good.
When he wakes up again he trains even more. Then he goes home and eats dinner. He trains 3 times a day and 6 times a week. Sunday is his day off. It's the day where he can go to the movies and do what he wants but he is still not allowed to eat junk food. He still has to eat a healthy and substantial lunch 24/7.

Kate De Goldi's tips for authors
When we talked to Kate De Goldi recently she said the most important thing to do if you want to become a author is you have to be a reader.
"If you aim to be a good author you have to be a good reader. That's how you learn everything you need to know about becoming an author."

Kate De Goldi visits Victory
On Thursday morning the New Zealand author Kate De Goldi came to Victory Primary School to talk about being a writer. She talked to the juniors, middles and seniors, all of whom asked great questions.
When I asked what she thought of e-books she replied: "I think that E-books are great for traveling and they slip into your bag really easily, but I much prefer the feel of a nice book and the texture of the pages."

Science Fair 2013
On the 23rd of September a Science Fair was taking place in the Stoke Hall. Heaps of kids entered the Nelson Cawthron Science and Technology Fair.

Room 11 from Victory Primary School entered with an amazing entry called Food for the Future. The representatives from Room 11 were Sam, Kyan, Chayenne, Deja and Iris.
Here are a couple comments from the judge's about Room 11's entry: Great presentation. Well done to your teacher for being so inspiring and industrious! Here's another: Clearly a lot of exciting learning has been happening in Room 11 at Victory! A very interesting process, with a lot of scientific understanding demonstrated by our two presenters. Soon Victory School will be feeding all of their school community. :)
The judges will announce the winner on the 15 of October.

Library Upgrade
Victory library has been getting a upgrade. Now you can use the fast-find on the other computers, not just on the library's main computer. You can also use the library iPad to read books.
The library has also got a TV. The cool thing about this is that you can connect the iPad to the TV. Anything you do on the iPad shows up on the TV.
