iPad app review: ScratchJr

ScratchJr is a great app for making animations with block coding.

It's great for all ages even though it's called jr. The app is really easy to use and play. You can make something cool or completely random.

Coding is the new literacy! With ScratchJr, young children (ages 5-7) can program their own interactive stories and games. In the process, they learn to solve problems, design projects, and express themselves creatively on the computer.

I used it and made a quick animation in one minute.  ★ ★ ★ ★ ★

Nepal Fundraiser

Victory Primary School has organised a fun day next Friday, 29 May, to raise money to help those affected by the earthquakes in Nepal. At Victory Primary School there are about 30 children who come from Nepal.

The whole school will be selling toys and heaps of other stuff to help - like mufti, juicies, sausage sizzle, and decorate your own cupcake.

The Victory Primary School cross country is coming up soon and the whole school is going to enter. A lot the classes are training for the race.

Matariki

Matariki is celebrated at Victory on 17 June. People make lanterns and kites to walk up to the end of the Railway Reserve. There they can watch a fire spinner and there are beautiful lights and once you get back you can get a cup of soup or watch the play.

App review: Klikaklu

Klikaklu is an app made by Coopercode LLC. You take a picture at any place and then you save it as a clue. When you have added as many clues as you want you let your friends go and find the clues. When they have found a clue they scan it with their ipad or iphone. When they are in the right place they unlock the clue and go on to the next clue.

I think it is a great app but I wish it was not so annoying with its pop-ups. It also wants you to get a perfect photo which is sometimes annoying, but on the bright side it is a great game if you want a mix of screens and phisical activity.

ANZAC remembrance at Victory

Victory Primary School made a field of remembrance for ANZAC. It had lots of white crosses and they all had a name of an ANZAC soldier who had died in the First World War.

In the middle of the field was a cross that said unknown solider, because lots of soliders are in unmarked graves.

Tree Planting at Murphy Street

On Wedensday some of the seniors went up to Murphy Street park to plant some trees. Darcy said it was really good.

They had a very good time and had a lot of fun.

Fitness

Victory Primary School classes are doing fitness lessons with Nate, a fitness instructor from Sport Tasman.

One of the games we play is Simpsons!
We have to get into a big circle and are given a number and then when Nate calls out our number we all run around the circle and back in our space into the middle.
The first 2 people there get to be Maggie. After a few rounds when he calls out Maggie the two winners become Lisa and so on as the Simpsons go.

Bigger, Smaller or the same?

We noticed that the school milk containers are a different shape. We wondered if they contained the same amount of milk.

We measured the length, height and width of each milk carton and then we multiplied the numbers to get the volumne of each carton. The old carton holds about 215ml and the new one about 218ml.

The only problem with the new boxes is that they are harder to stack because they are taller.

Ministry of Inspiration

Andrew and Renata went to The Ministry of Inspiration at NMIT at the end of Term 1. They had free registration which saved them $50 each.

They went to three sessions. Andrew went to Whale Watch, Golden Ratio, and Android App Development. Renata went to Whale watch, Out of the Box, and Android App Development.

At Android App Development they did a tutioral on the Internet and learnt about coding for Android. The code is a bit like Javascript but different. They made an app that was just a button and you could tap on it and it would say something.

"The day was good and it would be worth $50 for it," said Andrew.
