Kids learn slam poetry at Victory

Today Te Kahu Rolleston, a slam poet, came to Victory Primary School. We had to write a poem and some people had to read their poem to the whole school. It was kind of breath taking.

Slam poetry is poetry you say out loud to an audience. It is meant to rhyme. Darcy wrote a poem about biking.

It goes like this:

Use your bike
Use it like this
Bike it thru the streets of Nelson
Bike it up mountains
Fly like the wind
Bike thru the city
Bike thru the land
Bike thru sand
Towards the horizon

Trolley Derby

Last Saturday was the Mike Pero Trolley Derby. Heaps of trolleys entered and 1 or 2 were from our school.

Gryphon, who was in the race, said, "It's nerve-racking, very exiting and dangerous. I had to be very careful down the hill with my steering or I might do a flip." Gryphon's tips are stay to the side of the road or you will hit the pot holes. The website for the Trolley Derby is here.

Riverside Swimming Lessons

The seniors and middles at Victory Primary School have been going to Riverside pool for swimming lessons. Ethan Hughes who went swimming said, "We only had 3 short lessons, but it was useful".
The kids learnt survival skills as well. These were useful and exiting. They got put in 3 groups. The first group got to practise lengths and the second group got to practise basic supervised swimming. The last group did learning-to-swim.
