The Winning Team

Last Friday the six a side soccer team from Victory school went to represent Victory Primary School at the inter-school's tournament.

We had only ten minutes to play the games. We played against the team from Hira School. We play for ten minutes and we won ten nil. After we had a break, we practise a lot. Then we had to play four more games. We didn't lose any games so we went to the final and we played St Paul's and it was a tie 1-1

Sadly we had to do a penalty shoot out. Bawi Cung scored a penalty shot and Philemon had an penalty shot but it went too high. Then Van Bawi got a penalty shot and scored a goal and he got an another penalty shot but he miss it, so it was Bawi Min turn. He scored the penalty shot. Finally it was the last penalty shot. It was Khup. He shot and he scored and he made Victory Primary School proud.

"We won the trophy 'cause we're too pro. Yay!" said Khup.

The Playgrounds

Victory has two playgrounds, one for the new entrants and one for the older kids. The one for the new entrants is small and the other one is much bigger.

The new entrants one has a plastic slide, two metal bars you can slide down, small monkey bars, a bridge and a small fireman's pole.

The bigger playground has a big metal slide held up by platforms, it has a tunnel connected to metal bars you can climb up, there are ropes you can climb on. Connected to that is a huge swinging tire held up by wooden poles and connected to the ropes are two rope swings.

The playground usually changes after a year and a half.

Rainy Days At Victory

Here at Victory when its a rainy day nobody goes outside and plays (unless their naughty). Everyone stays inside and does lots of different things like playing with Klicko, going on computers, activities the teacher has set up for them and lots of other things.

100 Beanies

Last Friday, 8 senior students performed for all the teachers because the teachers had a special morning tea for Norma. She knitted the 100 beanies! The song that they choose to sing was Matariki.

"I love the beanies. She made them so warm and when I had to take it off I felt really cold on my head," Onejhayah said.

"It touched my heart when they sung the sweet flowing song. It felt like I was still a kid,"said Norma.
The kids enjoyed themselves and hope they can perform again for the staff.

Lately Room 11 have been painting kowhaiwhai for Matariki. The kowhaiwhai have been painted on a huge piece of frost cloth. Each design took about 10 minutes and the whole kowhaiwhai took roughly a week to finish. Once we had finished they were strung up in the hall and it looks great!

Six a Side Soccer

At Saxton field Victory Primary School and other schools played six a side soccer. They played a lot of soccer with other schools.

At last Victory won by a penalty scored by Khup.

The schools sat down at the ground and they called out who did great at soccer. Bawitha, Philemon, Kyan and Christian played well. Victory won the final against St Joseph's School.

The Firework Makers Daughter

On June 8 Room 11 went to a play called the Firework Maker's Daughter. They went because  the Theatre Royal had given the class free tickets so kids could get a chance to see live theatre.

The Firework Maker's Daughter was about a firework maker who's daughter wanted to follow in her father's foot step's.

Room 11 met outside  the theatre at six fifteen and then bustled inside and took their seat's. Suddenly the lights started to dim. Two hours later we were out in the foyer and waiting for our parents to pick us up and talking about what a great play we had just seen.

Matariki

This is the Matariki play that these kids will show us next week. There is going to be kapahaka too.

They are doing a play about The House of the People and is going really well. There are about 25 children in the play. They have been practising four times and they have a director to lead them.

The gardens by the whare.

Room 8 and 14 have been planting in front of the Whare. The builders have made steps there  for another way to get to the Whare. The builders brought a trailer full of dirt for the plants. The trees were hard to plant because they were tall even though it hasn't grown to full size yet. You can come down to the Whare to see the plants.

New Junior Classrooms

The new building for the junior classrooms is complete at last. This week teachers and students have been moving all the equipment and books from the old classrooms to the new ones. It's a big job! Boxes and bags of learning materials are piled up on the new carpet. Slowly, the beautiful new rooms are filling up.

The Teachers hope everything will be running by Tuesday afternoon.
